Well this Nine Pound Hammer, a little too heavy for my size, Buddy, for my size.
Goin' on the mountain, just a see my baby; never comin' back, ain't comin' back.

[Chorus]
Now, you roll on, Buddy, haul a load a coal. How can I roll
when the wheels won't go?

[Break]
Well, there ain't no hammer south o' Georgia, ring like mine,
Buddy, ring like mine. This ol' hammer ring like silver,
shine like gold, shine like gold.

[Chorus]
Now, you roll on, Buddy, don't you roll so slow. How can I
roll when the wheels won't go?

[Break]
An' this ol' hammer, Buddy, killed John Henry; can't kill me,
can't kill me.

[Chorus and ending]
