Programs
What we are building
Four projects, all small on purpose. Most are in the planning and fundraising stage. I will say so on each one, so you know what is real today and what is coming.
Stage: planning
Vetspresso and Vetdog
Coffee, hot dogs, paid work, and a friendly hello.
Veterans in our foothill towns often live a long way from the big VA campuses. Many want steady human contact, work they can be proud of, and a place where veterans and civilians meet without a clinic waiting room.
Vetspresso and Vetdog is a lean coffee and hot dog cart. We start small with a used hot dog cart, then add coffee as we can afford it. It is not a brick and mortar cafe. It is a cart at farmers markets, Main Street events, and partner church or veterans hall parking lots when we are invited.
The plan
- Paid or stipended shifts for local veterans
- A monthly "Veterans and Neighbors" hour, so civilians and veterans meet over food
- Permits, a commissary kitchen, and insurance in place before we serve a single customer
- A simple public note of hours worked and events held
Stage: certified, booking sessions now
Wellness and Hypnotherapy
Calm, focused, one-on-one time, mostly over Zoom.
I am a Clinical Certified Hypnotherapist. I completed a total of 300 hours of training, including coursework at the California School of Hypnotherapy in 2026, and I am certified through the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (ACHE), valid through December 31, 2028.
Hypnotherapy uses relaxation, focused attention, and suggestion to help you work on goals you choose.
Most sessions happen over Zoom, so you can join from wherever you are comfortable. I am based in Mountain Ranch, in Calaveras County, and I do not see clients in my home.
Before we start
- You will get a written client disclosure before your first session, as California requires for this kind of practice.
- Session rates: see rates below.
- Book a time: email john@musichealingarts.org or call (310) 857-0310.

Mountain Ranch Outdoor School and Music
Learn, play, and find out what you're good at, under the oaks and pines.
In foothill towns, affordable arts and wellness classes are thin compared with the valley or the big cities. Families, churches, and veterans groups still want low-cost programs that build belonging, and nobody should have to drive an hour for every workshop.
The plan is a day-program and music series based in Mountain Ranch, on a site shared with a landowner or partner under a simple written agreement. No campus to build, no land to buy.
What it could look like
- Workshops in music, performance basics, and simple creative tech
- Wellness and healing arts: breath and body awareness, stress relief, community arts
- Affordable community music events
- Fair pay for the artists and teachers who lead
- Indoor rain plans with local churches and community venues
Stage: early idea, one small first step
Community Recovery Pathway
Nobody should get lost between a crisis and a clinic.
Calaveras and the nearby foothill counties have thinner treatment options than the big cities. People often have to travel out of county for care. I want to help people find their way through that maze.
I am inspired by the idea behind Portugal's recovery-centered approach: treat recovery as the goal, meet people at their own step, and weave community support around them. To be clear, we are not the Portuguese government. We are not trying to change California law. Trafficking stays illegal. Treatment and medication stay with licensed providers.
The small first step
- A simple, voluntary "request help" way to reach us by phone, web, or QR card
- A living list of licensed treatment providers, county behavioral health, the VA, shelters, and legal aid that we have actually called
- A part-time peer navigator who listens and makes warm handoffs, and does not do therapy
- Low-pressure events like a music night or a family education night, as a first hello
- Honest counts of what we do, with no made-up success stories
